We used to live in tribes, and it meant so much more than today's families. It wasn't only your spouse and children as a family, but more; you were part of a tribe together, and that smaller circle was connected to a bigger circle...the tribe.

It was about life and death - true survival, and the tribe was your family and it was the center of life, not a tertiary thing like today's family circles can be. I’d like to think that one's word in the tribe meant more than it does today, but this may be an idealization of the truth.

Musically I explored playing the tribal drum-type pattern on my electric guitar, thwapping the strings with my fingers, a bit like Tony Levin’s approach with Funk Fingers. This is the rhythm that starts the song off. I also got my family to each participate in singing in the intro of the song.
