Inspired by Malala’s story as well as the Girl Rising documentary.

The idea that someone would shoot a 14 year old girl because she wanted to learn is absolutely appalling. It’s hard to grasp that people are that afraid of women learning and seeking truth, and who believe that the only solution they have for their fear is to kill those that would choose to learn.

In too many parts of the world, women are still not able to get an education and are held as slaves and prisoners to others. This song focuses on the progression of being a prisoner, seeking change, and finally becoming free. A butterfly brings a drop of hope and becomes a catalyst. The butterfly’s freedom intersects with the path of the prisoner and reminds her that change and freedom are possible.
